Sunlight Through His Rain

I’m living in a salty waste
That’s seasoned by my own desires.
My pleasures now have lost their taste;
I’m burning from my own sin’s fire.

Please come, O Lord, desires destroy
And irrigate my thirsty heart;
To cleanse me now Your Cross employ
And make me clean, give me new start.

Now my parched soul can feel Your rain
That comes on Holy Spirit’s breath;
It’s sent by You to ease my pain
And save me from my sin and death.

I feel in me Your virtues sprout,
Long dormant in my image made;
In me they sinful vices route–
Bring sunshine to my years-long shade.

O Lord, help me to follow light
From heaven comes on Spirit’s beam
As Father gives me risen life
From You, who my life has made clean.
