Your mercy all Your saints will drink
And offer us Your cup;
One swallow will shape all we think:
We never have enough.
We can’t at once bear all Your truth,
So we’re by Spirit led,
And one by one we taste Your fruit
From Tree on which you bled.
For what was done so long ago—
When measured in our time—
Is present made so we can know
Your truth revealed in rhyme.
Imagination’s poetry
With mem’ry is combined
To show surprising symmetry
Of truth from You sublime.
The poetry You write is found
In Church on Rock You built–
‘Midst storms of world on solid ground
Forgives our sin and guilt.
For past and present interact,
Show You are always here;
With gratitude see present fact
That in our hearts You’re near.
For You the past and present knit
Together in our hearts;
By You each one of us made fit
For truth You now impart.
For Sacred Heart You’ll always give
With mercy unto each,
As in our hearts you’re now alive:
To us Your truth You teach.
