Light of the World

Our sin’s desires with darkness colors all
And snuffs out light and life from God above,
A residue from our First Adam’s fall:
In dark we grope in vain for our true love.

Then Mary’s “Yes” expresses her desire—
Is pure and free from Adam’s sinful taint–
Calls down from heaven Holy Spirit’s fire
To kindle in us light that had grown faint.

Among us then comes light of all the world
To take with Him our dark desires in death,
And into hell our sin and darkness hurl,
Restores creation to New Eden’s health.

In his New Eden darkness cannot live,
Cast out by light of all the world He is.

Ever-Lightened Hearts

His wind that brought our Lord to Mary’s womb
Blows gently over world in Advent time
To bring His sovereign end to earthly gloom–
Prepares our hearts that He may each one find.

Our sins speak loud and each one knows his guilt,
But His forgiveness blows our sin away,
And our hearts led by Him begin to melt
When we see dawn of newly-breaking day.

Ahead we see a wind-borne light descend
From Star that in dark sky appears so bright
To show us where our Father His Son sends,
Who brings His light to penetrate our night.

We journey on with ever-lightened hearts
To welcome Triune Love, Himself impart.

HAND-IN-HAND

Come plant us, Lord, in Calvary’s soil
     Where your cross for us stands
And crucify that sinful coil
     Who plagues our hearts and land.

Cast him with all our sin in grave;
     Let him and our sin stay.
Raise us with You, our image saved
     From his deceitful ways.

Then let us hand-in-hand go on
     As we sing You our praise;
With Mary celebrate her Son
     Who gives us endless days.

To Paradise Restored

Adopted children, we adore
    Him to us here descends;
To paradise we are restored
     When with Him we ascend.

We eat His Body, Blood, and taste
     The fruit of Tree of Life–
Take Him in us who new creates
     Each one by heaven’s light–

Reflect His light throughout the earth,
     Creation made anew;
First fruits of heaven, earth gives birth:
     With His life all imbued.

A Past Forever New

O Lord, give me my past again
     The way it should have been:
A past that’s free of mortal sin–
     My past that You intend–

One written with Your heaven’s brush
     With beauty all around,
A past that is now green and lush
     Where no dead growth is found–

A past where mem’ries leap for joy,
     And peals of laughter ring–
A past where You my gifts employ
     As we with angels sing,

For in that past are those I love,
     Like morning dew are new;
Together we rejoice above
     As You new life imbue.

Cleansing Light

The ripples of the sun
Will cascade through the trees
When day has just begun
And dawn from darkness frees.

His cleansing splash of light
Will wash o’er all the earth
To melt away sin’s blight
And give the world new birth

If we are but attuned
To new life all around,
We’ll wake from Devil’s swoon,
With Jesus’ life be crowned–

For He is King of all
In Father’s universe;
Through dawn His Spirit calls
New Eden to step forth.

Sacred Vine

You first destroy the sinful fruit
     Grown by our wicked tree
And then You kill the rotten roots
     To set Your new roots free.

Now free, they’re joined to living Vine
     Cast down from heaven high
To nourish us with Blood as wine
     As You to us draw nigh.

We drink Your life from Vine entwined,
     Grown from Your Sacred Heart.
You’ve always said to us “You’re mine”
     And claimed us from the start.

We know forever we will be
     With You and those we love,
For Truth is You we clearly see
      When we’re born from above.

Jesus Saves Our Hearts

Deceitful words the Devil speaks
     As fangs flick out and in;
With stench his honeyed words still reek,
     Entices us to sin.

The fangs he flicks are razor sharp
     To virtue cut away,
As honeyed words our minds can warp
     If we let him hold sway.

Alone we cannot him resist,
     And Jesus is our help;
We call on Son who takes the risk
     To offer us Himself.

In every heart He blunts the strike|
     Of fangs are Satan’s tongue,
And Satan howls with his dislike
     Of Him came down those rungs.

For Jesus to each heart descends
     On ladder from the sky,
And every heart He enters, mends
     With virtues from on high.

With virtues we can with Him climb,
     Bring earth to heaven’s door;
New Eden in Him we will find
     With Paradise restored.

Holy Spirit’s Dwelling Place

Where is the Spirit’s dwelling place
     On earth where mortal’s live?
Is there among us sacred space
     Where God His Spirit gives?

With open eyes we Mary see
     Where Spirit is at home–
Brings Jesus for nativity
     Who one of us becomes.

In Mary, Spirit comes to earth,
     Proclaims where He will be:
In every woman He is birthed;
     In them we Spirit see.

To dwell with men in woman lives,
And they bring Him to us;
In every woman Father gives
His Spirit to entrust.

So, man, ask not where Spirit is
     Among us mortals here,
For every woman’s heart is His,
     And each should hold Him dear.

A Rose In My Storm

In stormy life adrift at sea
I never could escape the night
And longed for dawn when I could see
Some hope that all would turn out right.

And then in deepest night I smelled
A fragrance from a Rose that’s grown
On land of life beyond death’s knell–
In Lily’s womb was for us sown.

For she gives birth to Him, our Dawn,
Breaks in my heart as storm abates,
And I know I to Rose belong
As He wipes clean my sinful slate.

And then at last I understand
That all creation’s born anew,
For He Himself is Promised Land
With hope as fresh as morning dew
