Advent Morning Star

The Morning Star arises in our hearts
When Advent comes and Christ our Lord draws near,
And He begins with dawn to each impart
His faith and courage to face every fear.

Apostles are for us His shining light
Who saw Him face-to-face when He arose
To leave in grave for us our sinful night,
And we in Him will find our new repose.

For our hearts in life’s storms will steady be
When rest in storms we always find in Him;
His “Peace, be still” will others in us see
And know that He desires the same for them.

His Morning Star will herald our new day
To show within us we can know His way.

The Pilgrim’s Dream,

We gaze at sunset’s glow in western sky
And feel the pilgrim’s gratitude for rest
When day is spent and once again earth lies
Asleep to dream of her New Eden quest.

For earth’s a pilgrim with the human race,
And pilgrim knows as he lays down his head
To enter with her that vast inner space
Where dreams come true and earth is raised from dead.

The pilgrim’s goal is seen in night-time dreams
With Joseph who protects the Father’s Son
Whose human nature comes from Heaven’s Queen
On earth New Eden’s birth has now begun–

Will be complete when earth and pilgrim wake
And dreams come true for all the human race.

His Open Door

I look upon the altar, and I see
A door in monstrance open to us all,
A two-way door for those who bend their knee
To Jesus, speaks to us with Lazarus call.

And when He calls us forth, He bids us come
To let Him enter us and take us in,
And when we do we and the world become
An Eden New with our forgiven sin.

We look around and see the world anew—
The way it’s always been since time began—
And we know now the truth we never knew:
He came and made the world His Promised Land.

The open door of monstrance makes us sing
Of Trinity–live in eternal ring.

Our Lady’s Cloak

Elijah’s cloak is from Our Lady Fair—
Behind that cloak the prophet hid his face—
And heard the voice that came on Spirit’s air
To speak God’s Word that’s always full of grace.

The Word he heard in whispering sound is Son
Who came from heart of Father to us breathed,
And prophet will not be the only one
To whom our Father’s Spirit is bequeathed.

For Mary’s cloak is there to prophesy
The birth of Father’s Son in Bethlehem,
Who for us all will take His Cross and die
That all may have our life anew in Him.

The prophet’s vict’ry on Carmel was won
To prophesy the rising of God’s Son.

OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
JULY 16

Joined to God’s Trinity

Your rising sets us in the heights
Above the Devil’s gasping hand,
For cross has shown Yours is the might
That breaks his hold upon our land.

The earth itself in tomb can’t hold
“I AM” who rises from the dead—
Commissions us for truth He’s told
And hungry sheep by Him are fed.

For we are called to see Him raised
Above the earth to all us rule
And lead the world to give Him praise–
Will make this life a heaven’s school,

Prepares us for eternity,
As we earth’s journey in time make;
Through Son joined to God’s Trinity,
Our thirst for Triune love is slaked.

THE SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD

Living Fount

Great strength in our Lord here abides,
In His humility resides,
And He from pride will make us free
As we drink in humility.

For He is now our living fount
With water flows from sacred mount—
His Calvary where He for us
Gives Body, Blood to all who trust.

In Eucharist His risen life
Comes from His mount to give us light,
For every step with Him we take,
He will our souls in Him remake.

Then we become a creature new–
With joyfulness His Father view;
His spirit every heart indwells
For He is our Emmanuel.

His Miracle

A miracle we long to see
     Before our very eyes
And never knew that one could be
     Right there to our surprise.

His miracle in every face
     Is Jesus shining through,
An everlasting sign of grace
     That’s old and always new.

His miracle will never die
     But rise beyond the grave
With body new–in grave won’t lie:
In Him we will be saved.

Adorned By Truth

We think creation might be wearing out
For through it we can see a growing light
And wonder what this light can be about,
For in it we can now take such delight.

Then through it we see life for which we’ve longed,
And with that life our death will be no more;
With Jesus we arise in breaking dawn
As we, in new creation, Him adore.

We see creation’s garment is not worn
But cloaks the truth that through it heaven comes;
The more we follow Jesus, truth adorns
Each one as in His likeness we become,

For through the old He gives to each anew
As in us He is hidden in plain view.

Light of the World

Our sin’s desires with darkness colors all
And snuffs out light and life from God above,
A residue from our First Adam’s fall:
In dark we grope in vain for our true love.

Then Mary’s “Yes” expresses her desire—
Is pure and free from Adam’s sinful taint–
Calls down from heaven Holy Spirit’s fire
To kindle in us light that had grown faint.

Among us then comes light of all the world
To take with Him our dark desires in death,
And into hell our sin and darkness hurl,
Restores creation to New Eden’s health.

In his New Eden darkness cannot live,
Cast out by light of all the world He is.

Ever-Lightened Hearts

His wind that brought our Lord to Mary’s womb
Blows gently over world in Advent time
To bring His sovereign end to earthly gloom–
Prepares our hearts that He may each one find.

Our sins speak loud and each one knows his guilt,
But His forgiveness blows our sin away,
And our hearts led by Him begin to melt
When we see dawn of newly-breaking day.

Ahead we see a wind-borne light descend
From Star that in dark sky appears so bright
To show us where our Father His Son sends,
Who brings His light to penetrate our night.

We journey on with ever-lightened hearts
To welcome Triune Love, Himself impart.
