Cloaked in Humility

We long to be inside that gate
So we can know God’s love
Where Tree of Life for us awaits
     And we can look above.

But we too often  have looked down—
     In pride we’ve taken charge—
And in our sins our hope is drowned
     As sinful self enlarged.

Our god becomes our human strength
    But find it cannot lift
Ourselves from mire in which we sink
     And cry for Spirit’s gift.

And then from where we wish to be
     One comes in heaven’s cloak,
A garment of humility,
     From inside out it soaks.

For heart of Him within is great
     And colors what’s without;
In Him there is no room for hate
     Nor is their any doubt.

He for us is God’s Truth and Way—
The Life for which we’ve longed—
God’s Word for us has final say
    For to Him we belong.

Humility casts out our sin—
In Him we are sin free—
And gate is opened, we step in
To eat of His Life Tree.

We feast on risen Body, Blood—
     At last we truly live—
His key to gate is Holy Rood,
     And Paradise He gives.

Made New

The fires of Hell in us detest the splash
Of water from the Church’s holy fount
That washes fires away with all its ash–
Renews in us God’s laws from holy mount.

A second birth from Spirit’s seed’s conceived,
Birthed in the waters of Baptismal flood;
From Mary’s humble heart He then received
Our nature and from her, His human Blood.

He sheds that Blood for us on Calvary’s hill,
And Cross becomes the sign of our new life,
For on that Cross our sin in Adam killed,
And we are freed from Devil’s conjured strife.

His Blood in water cleanses and makes new
Our hearts with love from Trinity imbued.

Pulled into Light

We weave a web that’s not inspired by You
Then wonder why in our own web we’re caught:
From inside web we cannot Your light view
But see the sin that our desires have wrought.

We can’t undo this web of our desires
And beg release from our old woven trap;
We pray that someone else will be inspired
To cut this mesh that ‘round our hearts now wraps.

But then we see a sword shaped like a Cross
Slash through that web and cut us to the quick;
In fear we feel that our own life is lost,
And we’ll be thrown with web into death’s ditch.

Then hand appears that held that bloody sword
To grasp our hearts and pull them into light,
As splash of water over our hearts pours
To cleanse us from desires that our hearts blight.

A gentle hand feeds our hearts with new food
Of Body, Blood of Him who that sword held,
And we know His desires for us are good
For He is always our Emmanuel.

Heaven’s Sunlight

Lord, let us dwell in garden fair
Where roses and Your lilies bloom,
And ivy ours will climb Your stair–
See violets there that know no gloom.

For we are with Your ivy twined,
And always we to all say “ours”
And never only will say “mine”
As we live ‘neath our marriage bower.

As hand-in-hand we wind Your stairs,
Your Spirit’s hand will lift us up
To see us through our every care
While ever grow our hearts in trust.

When we will reach Your stairway’s end,
We know that we’ll forever be
In heaven’s sunlight without sin:
With family and You we’ll be free.

Our Clay Is Saved

Beneath the clay of our humanity
Is One who to us comes through Virgin Maid
To cloak from all His true divinity
So He from Devil’s wiles can all us save.

For Devil did not recognize God’s Son
Who came as Baby Boy in crib ‘twas laid–
By Devil seen as just another one
Of creatures, soul and body, Father made.

He hates the union who each person is
With heaven, earth joined in each person born,
And Devil wants to sever and make his
Our souls, from bodies be forever torn.

For he wants human bodies finally dead
With our souls ruled from hell by him below,
But Jesus rises from His earthly bed–
Preserves the union of His Body, Soul.

In Him our human nature joined as One
In Person with the nature of God’s Son;
We’ll never in Him ever be undone:
Our soul and body union He has won.

Capture My Thoughts

Lord, capture in Your heart my thoughts
That they will not to Devil stray
So I will not by him be caught
And I Your truth will not betray.

For I will not a Judas be,
Betray You to the evil one,
And I to Your will bend my knee:
My King and Priest, Begotten Son.

For You from Father came to save
Creation ‘twas with Eden made,
And when we chose sin and the grave,
We were cast into eastern shade.

Down Jacob’s Ladder then You came
To bring Your light into our dark
Where You cared not for human fame
But came to build for us an Ark.

Your ship was made from wood of Cross
Raised high above on Calvary’s hill
Where for us all Your life You lost,
But truth in You they could not kill.

Then You, who’re Truth, are raised for us
By Spirit–enters hearts and minds
As we surrender and You trust,
And Way and Truth and Life we find.

Your net hauls all of us aboard
Your ship, the Church, that sails the world
Where You’re the captain and our Lord,
And You’re for all our priceless pearl.

Jesus, Live in Me

Please, Jesus, come and live in me
That from my sin I’ll be set free.
Remember deep within my night
Your Cross that will my soul make right;
When morning comes, may I then know
Your truth that in the night You show–
See morning star will rise in east,
Invite me to Your gospel feast
Where I am raised with You from dead,
And with Your Body, Blood I’m fed
To live forever in Your love
With all my family above.

Greatness

O Lord, give me a humble heart
That I may Your will know,
For Your truth You will not impart
     To those who look below.

Below is where the Devil lives
     Who wallows in his pride–
Will not look up to You who give
     The love that will abide.

For humble heart receives Your love
That with it truth will bring,
And love and truth from up above
Fill hearts that of You sing.

For Michael, Gabriel, Raphael
Lead all of us in song,
As love and truth will cast their spell,
     And we know we belong.

We always will belong to You
Who came to our hearts teach,
So we with heaven’s eyes can view
     The greatest and the least.

For least in eyes of world can be
     The greatest in Your eyes,
As You with humble heart can see
     The greatness in each lies.

My True Self

So gradually, reluctantly,
     I turn to future face,
Then grows in me expectantly
Where God will lead with grace.

From way beyond there comes His wind
     That will to future lead,
And my will to His will must bend
     If I’m not to impede.

And as I let bad memories fade,
     I am no longer lost;
From my own past my future’s made
For He has paid the cost.

His wind that from my future came
     Now leads me on to Light;
I’m not the same for I’ve been changed:
My true self comes to life.

Resting Our Hearts

In providence we rest our hearts
In hand of Him who’s over all,
And from Him we can know our part
When we with trust upon Him call.

For each is great within His eyes
In place that only One can fill;
Each place comes only in one size
Shaped by His Cross on Calvary’s hill.

For each one He was lifted up
To die and rise in providence,
And drink with Him from new life’s cup
With His Blood filled for recompense.

Now He has taken all our sin,
As promised us so long ago,
And cast away what’s never been–
His plan for us whose hearts He knows.
