The Holy Name of Jesus

The name of Jesus gives us life
When we say “not my will”
And leave our dark and enter light
     Our purpose to fulfill.

We speak His name and our foes flee
     And slink away in fear;
Forever we will bend our knee
To Him in us we bear.

His Mother now becomes our own—
     Her mantle covers us—
As virtues are within us sown,
     By sin no longer trussed.

Both now and for eternity
Our hearts in us He claims,
And our lives are forever free
     As we speak Jesus’ name.

Bethlehem Within

So long it seems we’ve had to wait
For our hearts to be Bethlehem,
But He’s on time and never late
As Bethlehem He brings within.

He’s born again in each of us
With Mary as our Mother too;
She teaches us to Jesus trust
With new life fresh as morning dew.

With Bethlehem within we’ll grow
To die and rise with Jesus here,
And resurrected life we’ll know
As Bethlehem removes all fear.

Then we’ll discover in the end
That Bethlehem now lives above;
There’s always room within the inn
Where we’ll live in undying love.

Be Still and Wait

Be still before the Lord and wait
For He will be here soon,
And He’ll step through our Mary’s gate,
For Him an open womb.

As Virgin Maid, our “yes” she said
And welcomed Father’s Son
Into a world that is not dead
But longs for life to come.

And when He comes, He’ll have the key
Of gate to Paradise.
When opened we’ll New Eden see;
For us He’s paid the price.

The fruit of His new Tree of Life
He gives to us to eat;
In midst of eastern storms and strife
     He brings His mercy seat.

His Body, Blood, for us foretaste
Of meal that is to come–
Brings life into our barren waste,
And we new selves become.

Then through us, all the earth redeemed
     As Paradise floods earth:
New Eden comes on heaven’s beam;
All earth knows His new birth.

A PASSING GUEST

We all are like a passing guest
On our way to eternity,
And He comes to each of us bless,
Prepare us to of sin be free.

He joins us on our pilgrim way
To trod with us our upward road
And from us cast our sins away
To lighten with His yoke our load.

Forgetting now what lies behind,
We journey on to what’s ahead,
And feel the cords of sin unbind
As we His Body, Blood, are fed.

A taste of heaven’s banquet here
Transforms us from the inside out
So we’ll be fit when we are there
And on the way remove all doubt.

For Truth is One, on road we learn;
It’s Jesus, to us Himself gives
When we our hearts to heaven turn,
As in each one His life He lives.

Homecoming

We start to climb the mountain of the Lord
And find ourselves borne up on eagles’ wings
As saints above point to Him we adore,
And angels’ voices we hear for Him sing.

Those eagles’ wings now rustle with the breath
Of Spirit breathed by Christ, Begotten Son,
Who for us overcame our human death
As for His Father all of us He won.

Rejoicing we meet others on the way
As lighter steps from time to time become,
And brightness of the dawn’s arising rays
Show us the glory that to us will come.

From manger through His Cross and empty tomb,
We journey with Him who brings all us home.

On Giving Thanks

The wonder of this world in which we live
Where new creation every day breaks through
And we see truth and goodness Jesus gives
Where old world dies and rises with Him new!

Our vision of Him clearer will become
When we repent and our sin dies with Him
And Jesus in each heart Himself will come–
Brings light to hearts made dark by willful sin.

In lightened hearts arises gratitude
And we at altar kneel to give Him thanks,
For hearts once poor can know His plentitude
In Catholic Church where bless’ed ones join ranks.

We give to everyone a helping hand
As Jesus spreads His goodness through our land.

Our Path to Promised Land

Where can we find the path to Promised Land
Where milk and honey flow both day and night
And we in righteousness can always stand
With Jesus who gives us His lasting light?

His light shows us where our path will begin
In Bethlehem, will lead us to His Cross,
And His light yoke with us bears all our sin
As we trod path where all our sin is lost.

Good fellowship we know along the way
With others who, with Jesus, His path walk
As He will teach us to for others pray
And as we do, away drop all our faults.

We learn that our own lives we cannot save
But must lose them to Christ, our living Lord,
For through His death, His risen life He gave
To all who lose themselves and Him adore.

His path will lead to Promised Land above
Whose fruit we can taste here, His Body, Blood–
Participate in Jesus’ perfect love
As we on journey eat His heaven’s food.

His Glory

Our hearts for Christmas deeply yearn,
     For fire that burns,
     Does not consume,
Bursts forth in world, God’s holy bloom.
A bloom from Eden’s Garden parched
     To light our dark,
     Sprouts forth His seed
In Anna’s womb where Calvary bleeds.

Her blue in union with His red
     Is raised from dead,
     Will purple form.
From womb to tomb new person born—
A birth of perfect man and Son,
     Begotten One
     Now condescends;
To Mary’s lap He here descends.

He comes to suckle at her breast,
     To take His rest
     In lap He made—
Brings forth His glory from Eve’s shade,
A shade removed in Second Eve
     Is His reprieve
     From Adam’s choice:
She answers “yes” with Mother’s voice.

 Your Face We See

Your face is always turned toward us
In Eucharistic bread and wine–
Become Your Body, Blood we trust,
And You say to each one, “You’re mine!”

You look at us and bring to light
The person we have always been;
Revealed to us within Your sight,
We see ourselves without our sin.

This glimpse of truth takes breath away
As in Your mercy we are bathed
And see You have the final say–
Through us You’ll all creation save.

We look upon the world around
And see creation You imbue
With grace in everything abounds
As You are making all things new.

The Rhythm of Our Breath

May rhythm of our breath be Spirit filled
With Christ, begotten by the Father breathed
That Adam’s heart in us knows, “Peace, be still!”–
Receives inheritance through Christ bequeathed.

As Second Adam comes, makes all things new
With freshness of eternal Easter morn,
Redeems creation was in Eden skewed
By Adam’s choice when He was God’s First Born.

We’re born again of Virgin, Second Eve,
Whose “yes” becomes our own in second birth–
Gives First Eve’s children life with full reprieve,
Restores for all creation Eden’s mirth.

We laugh with Sarah, now believes the truth
Of Triune Love, the Spirit’s final proof.
