A Slender Thread to Mary’s Heart

The Providence of God, a slender thread
That winds from Eve to Mother of God’s Son
Who comes to live and die and rise from dead
So knot that Satan tied can be undone.

It’s Mary’s “Yes” began to untie cord
That Satan used to bind us to his will,
As she surrendered her will to her Lord
And opened womb Begotten could then fill.

Her human nature to her Son she gives,
United with the nature of God’s Son,
So He, in Person One, is free to live
And die and rise, a new world for us won.

Now we and all the world are born again
From Mother’s love and Father’s love for us,
And we and all the world are free from sin
Through Mary’s “Yes” who for us Father trusts.

Truth Within Ourselves

May we to Truth within ourselves conform—
The way that’s written in our inward parts—
As Mary did, for life for which we’re born,

But fell in Adam from our image formed
By Triune Love to live in family’s heart;
May we to Truth within ourselves conform.

Your Resurrection brings New Eden’s morn,
Await Your human will that Your impart,
As Mary did, for life for which we’re born.

No longer be within ourselves forlorn
When Adam Old on Cross from us departs;
May we to Truth within ourselves conform.

Our water to New Eden’s wine’s transformed–
Become again Creator’s Triune art
As Mary did, for life for which we’re born.

On far side of Old Eden’s eastern storm
From Triune Love no longer set apart:
May we to Truth within ourselves conform
As Mary did, for life for which we’re born.

Our Father’s Mother-Love

In her maternal face, our Father’s seen
Whose joy in Mary knows no human bounds–
His Second Eve whose image shows what’s been:
Our Father’s mother-love with human crown.

Foreshadowed in His spouse, Jerusalem,
She’ll hold all people to her mother’s breast
To suckle with her Son in Bethlehem
In mother’s lap where all of us can rest.

There human we become and full alive–
See garden gate found in Gethsemane,
No longer barred, for empty grave clothes lie
In tomb of Him passed through our agony.

He’ll raise to glory all from Eden’s nap
Through Father’s mother-love in Mary’s lap.

Two Blossoms

Have you not seen the rose of blossom blue,
    One wet with crimson dew?
    She grows on Calvary’s hill,
Whose petals with a Mother’s love are filled
And drip that love on all who heed her voice,
Obey her Son’s command to feast, rejoice.

Her blossom blue at Nazareth was conceived
    When Anna there received
    A breath-blown, blood-red drop
In Sinai’s smoke from Calvary’s mountain top,
With tears from Garden of Gethsemane
And morning mist from Sea of Galilee.

Her rose in bud was met by angel sent
    To offer sacrament
    To be the Spirit’s wife,
Become the Mother of New Adam’s life.
A purple Rose of Sharon’s royal blood
Meets her blue blood to mix in crimson flood.

Now King and heaven’s Queen on thrones both sit,
    For earth and heaven knit
    By Jesus’ Living Vine
Who carries to His branches Blood-/Red wine,
Now flows from Cross:  new Tree of Life that grows
Two Blossoms—purple, blue, and each a rose.

Her Eyes of Loving Faith

So blessed are Mary’s eyes that did not see
Yet see through loving heart that has believed,
For you who held His Body from the Tree
Knew life that came to Him who was conceived
In your fresh womb by Holy Spirit’s breath
Would rise again and not be held by death.

Through faith in Him you came to understand,
See His new Risen Life with Spirit’s eyes.
You did not need by empty tomb to stand
To see with Magdalene where He did lie,
Then gaze upon His Body now is raised—
Makes empty here what was His once-filled grave.

At Pentecost, your Nazareth faith confirmed
As Spirit fell on those who had not seen
But trusted those who saw with hearts that burned
From Spirit’s breath, a gift to all: now gleaned
The truth you see through faith that in your womb
Was He conceived now risen from His tomb.

Wrapped in His Calm

Young Mary spoke a cosmic word,
     Said once but for all time,
As welcomed she our world’s true Lord
     Into its stormy clime.

The word she uttered let Him speak
     His Word to still our storm.
What we thought strong was to Him weak;
     His strength saves us from harm.

Now Mary sits at His right side
     With Mother’s arms and lap;
Through her our present storms subside
     As His calm all us wraps.

It’s in that calm we leave our nets,
     Leave all to follow Him.
Like Mary, we our Lord have met–
     Allure of this world dim.

Through us in storm has shone her Son,
     And we hear Him say, “Come.”
Then some day we will hear, “Well done!”
     As we are welcomed home.

ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

From Her Face Glory Shines

His creature her Creator bears
And glory shines from her young face—
Forever will for God’s Son care,
Made human by one full of grace.

But human cannot hold divine
Forever in her Mother’s womb.
Her human water changed to wine
For He ascends and she’s assumed.

Now all of us will soon be found
With Mary at her Son’s blessed side,
As full of grace we all abound
For all our sin has with Him died.

We thank you, Mary, for your prayers
That we may someday with you live;
For your Son through you our lives bears:
His life to us through you He gives.

The Father’s Gift

Blessed Mary is the Father’s gift—
Receives for us His Spirit’s breath,
Conceives a Son who will us lift
From faithlessness and sentenced death.

In Jesus’ will she does precede
The Spirit’s gift at Pentecost;
He gives us Mother as He bleeds
For us the wine from Eden lost.

New Adam’s Blood by Spirit comes
To all who will with Mary wait.
His sisters, brothers we become—
Receive the Spirit with her faith.

With her Son, crushes serpent’s head,
Creating human race anew
With Him through woman raised from dead;
Our Mother’s love has seen us through.

Give Thanks to Mary

Exiles Set Free

Divinity His image makes
In union of one body, soul
And then, through Mary, image takes–
Unites with Him to make us whole.

For we have wandered far from home
In Eden’s East where exiles live
While longing for the place we’re from:
We yearn for Him to sin forgive.

Forbidden fruit did Adam taste
And severed bond ‘tween heaven, earth:
Decreed to us death as our fate;
Through us all earth now needs new birth.

When Spirit comes at Nazareth
To Virgin Mary, pure from Him,
She answers “Yes” to Spirit’s breath,
And He is born in Bethlehem.

Now soul and body one, are healed
And we taste fruit of New Life Tree;
We eat His Body, Blood revealed
In Eucharist, and we’re set free.
