Daybreak in Our Darkness

Where is the daybreak in this world of dark,
     A light in landscape stark
To shine on path toward home
That bids us all with heaven’s voice to come,
Discover Image in each one remade–
Recast by light in us that casts out shade?

That dawn that runs before full light of morn
Is Church, for all time born
     Where water, Spirit drown
And then we’re dressed in pure white festive gown
To celebrate a heaven’s wedding feast
Of Bride and Groom whose union makes sin cease.

Our Fallen Night is Over

Our fallen night is over now:
     Behold the eastern dawn–
Departing dark before Him bows
The One for whom we long.

Our wildest dreams have now come true
     In beauty all around,
And all is fresh like morning dew;
     His grace for us abounds.

His day has come, and all rejoice
     In heaven and on earth;
Both men and angels with one voice
     Sing new creation’s birth.

His rainbow is a ladder down
By which His Son has come
To dress us in Baptismal gown–
     Prepares us all for home.

His daylight now upon us floods,
     And we behold a Cross.
Now courses through our veins His Blood;
We find the life we lost.

The Church, His Ark

His wood and water save us all
On Ark that floats through tide of time,
As water is a funeral pall
That kills our sin in Bloody brine—

Flows from His side to float the wood
Of Cross raised high on Calvary’s mount,
And Ark made from His Holy Rood
Floats on the water from His fount—

Cleans all the earth and opens gate
To Paradise where Ark will flow
And save us all from Devil’s hate
As we sail into heaven’s glow—

The light shines forth from Father’s Son,
Our Captain of this Ark He sails,
Who for us all His victory won,
Whose love for us will never fail.

A Slender Thread to Mary’s Heart

The Providence of God, a slender thread
That winds from Eve to Mother of God’s Son
Who comes to live and die and rise from dead
So knot that Satan tied can be undone.

It’s Mary’s “Yes” began to untie cord
That Satan used to bind us to his will,
As she surrendered her will to her Lord
And opened womb Begotten could then fill.

Her human nature to her Son she gives,
United with the nature of God’s Son,
So He, in Person One, is free to live
And die and rise, a new world for us won.

Now we and all the world are born again
From Mother’s love and Father’s love for us,
And we and all the world are free from sin
Through Mary’s “Yes” who for us Father trusts.

The Wonders of Your Call

Our thorns and thistles You wore on Your head
To take on You our punishment deserved,
And then You slept in grave that is our bed
To wake with us that we may for You serve.

Your thorns and thistles, with nails marked Your hands,
Are worn in our hearts open now to love,
As for Your truth we in the world will stand
When Spirit comes upon us like a Dove.

Through us, Your Church, You give the world a choice
To once again choose life and not our sin,
For You are Adam New who with Your voice
Through us call people to be born again.

We thank You for the wonders of Your call
That when we heed, You save from Adam’s fall.

Suffering

From suffering we can’t run away—
     It is our human state—
And we must let it have its way
To save us from sin’s fate.

For suffering will burn up our sins
     And is God’s megaphone–
Reminds us who we should have been
So our poor choice we’ll own.

And then we learn to thankful be
     For who we will become;
Our true self Jesus always sees—
     Forgiveness from Him comes.

We then will seek to help relieve
     The suffering others know,
For we know each one is conceived
     To live ‘neath Noah’s bow.

The Glory of His Innocents

His glory in His Image all can see
Profusely scattered by His Image made,
Yet it’s obscured by sin from Adam’s tree,
And we live under Devil’s man-made shade.

His Image in the womb we try to kill
And Rachel wails as many children die,
But Image will not always their graves fill–
Will rise, forever live by Savior’s side.

Among us here His glory for us raised
In Son, Begotten of His Image born,
And joined with Him we give His glory praise
As He becomes ourselves with Him adorned.

All Innocents His glory will become
As fully human we live in His home.

Expand My Heart

With Your love, Lord, expand my heart
That I may see reality,
So words I speak will truth impart–
Removes our chains and sets us free.

When hearts expand, those chains are burst
And we receive our heart’s first glimpse
Of life beyond our earthly dust–
Is part of Father’s providence.

For human death becomes a boon
As it removes what has been spoiled
And ushers us into a room
That sin and death have never soiled–

And there we’re raised in world that’s new
With bodies free of death and sin
Where we each others real selves view
And love and beauty never end.

Truth Within Ourselves

May we to Truth within ourselves conform—
The way that’s written in our inward parts—
As Mary did, for life for which we’re born,

But fell in Adam from our image formed
By Triune Love to live in family’s heart;
May we to Truth within ourselves conform.

Your Resurrection brings New Eden’s morn,
Await Your human will that Your impart,
As Mary did, for life for which we’re born.

No longer be within ourselves forlorn
When Adam Old on Cross from us departs;
May we to Truth within ourselves conform.

Our water to New Eden’s wine’s transformed–
Become again Creator’s Triune art
As Mary did, for life for which we’re born.

On far side of Old Eden’s eastern storm
From Triune Love no longer set apart:
May we to Truth within ourselves conform
As Mary did, for life for which we’re born.

The Church a Castle

Destroy the Devil’s stronghold in our hearts
That Church may be a castle for Your love
Where angels may descend and then embark
To conquer hearts with Your strength from above.

May Jacob’s ladder end in castle’s keep
As angels up and down that ladder go
And then fly over earth to feed Your sheep
With truth from You as love within them grows.

May all who come to castle on You feed,
Who give Your Body, Blood to all of us
And meet on earth our greatest human need:
To stand at ladder’s foot with Mary’s trust.

We see that Jacob’s ladder is Your cross
Where Mary waits for each of us to come,
As worldly gain we count as so much dross
When our hearts have with hers as one become.

Then we on wings of Spirit ladder climb–
At top step from earth’s tomb through open door,
We breathe Your Spirit’s air in heaven’s clime
And live with Trinity forever more.
