His Glory

Our hearts for Christmas deeply yearn,
     For fire that burns,
     Does not consume,
Bursts forth in world, God’s holy bloom.
A bloom from Eden’s Garden parched
     To light our dark,
     Sprouts forth His seed
In Anna’s womb where Calvary bleeds.

Her blue in union with His red
     Is raised from dead,
     Will purple form.
From womb to tomb new person born—
A birth of perfect man and Son,
     Begotten One
     Now condescends;
To Mary’s lap He here descends.

He comes to suckle at her breast,
     To take His rest
     In lap He made—
Brings forth His glory from Eve’s shade,
A shade removed in Second Eve
     Is His reprieve
     From Adam’s choice:
She answers “yes” with Mother’s voice.

Advent Morning Star

The Morning Star arises in our hearts
When Advent comes and Christ our Lord draws near,
And He begins with dawn to each impart
His faith and courage to face every fear.

Apostles are for us His shining light
Who saw Him face-to-face when He arose
To leave in grave for us our sinful night,
And we in Him will find our new repose.

For our hearts in life’s storms will steady be
When rest in storms we always find in Him;
His “Peace, be still” will others in us see
And know that He desires the same for them.

His Morning Star will herald our new day
To show within us we can know His way.

 Your Face We See

Your face is always turned toward us
In Eucharistic bread and wine–
Become Your Body, Blood we trust,
And You say to each one, “You’re mine!”

You look at us and bring to light
The person we have always been;
Revealed to us within Your sight,
We see ourselves without our sin.

This glimpse of truth takes breath away
As in Your mercy we are bathed
And see You have the final say–
Through us You’ll all creation save.

We look upon the world around
And see creation You imbue
With grace in everything abounds
As You are making all things new.

The Rhythm of Our Breath

May rhythm of our breath be Spirit filled
With Christ, begotten by the Father breathed
That Adam’s heart in us knows, “Peace, be still!”–
Receives inheritance through Christ bequeathed.

As Second Adam comes, makes all things new
With freshness of eternal Easter morn,
Redeems creation was in Eden skewed
By Adam’s choice when He was God’s First Born.

We’re born again of Virgin, Second Eve,
Whose “yes” becomes our own in second birth–
Gives First Eve’s children life with full reprieve,
Restores for all creation Eden’s mirth.

We laugh with Sarah, now believes the truth
Of Triune Love, the Spirit’s final proof.

Wisdom Smiles on Us

With Your eternal wisdom You’ll enrich
The hearts and minds of all who follow You
As You move through the world to our souls fetch
From sin and darkness of a world askew.

With wisdom from the Father You impart
Your vision of the whole that wisdom is
As with Your love that flows from Sacred Heart
Your light and life to all the world You give.

With wisdom’s light we see the world re-born,
Becomes what it was always meant to be
Where families are the center, aren’t forlorn,
As wisdom’s vision lightens all we see.

The human family—father, mother, child—
Your likeness here where wisdom on us smiles.

Your Love For Me

What is it You in Your love want of me
     Who longs to bend my knee,
     Be in Your perfect will,
Submit to death that You may my sin kill
And raise me in New Eden that appeared
On Calvary’s mount to take away my fear?

Bestow again Your hope from New Life Tree,
     Makes me forever free
     From Eve’s and Adam’s ills,
To empty and with Holy Spirit fill
That You may dry with Your grave clothes my tears
So sobs may cease and You alone I hear.

First Sunday in Advent

WITH MARY

With you, dear Mary, we begin this year,
Hearts open like your womb to your Son greet,
As Gabriel says to us to have no fear,
For in each heart we will our Savior meet.
May we with you and Joseph journey make
To Bethlehem to learn humility,
And on that journey God’s first promise take
That from our sins your Son will set us free.
Although the world will close its doors that night,
Your open door will be in stable laid,
While we and world await God’s bright starlight
To shine for all who have this journey made.
Dear Mary, may our hearts with you respond;
In Advent journey with you we will bond.

Virgin Mother Mary

O Mary, virgin in God’s house,
May we our own vocations fill
As you’re forever Spirit’s spouse
And in God’s plan are virgin still.

Forever Mother of God’s Son,
You as a virgin always share
In birth by Spirit of each one
Who needs your mother’s tender care.

Your virgin’s hands and heart now bear
The life of each by Spirit sired,
For wedding garment you still wear
As mother of each new-born child.

On cross your Son to all us gave,
A virgin to our mother be—
Each one unique by Spirit made,
Like you a once-made specialty.

O Virgin Mary, be our guide
As with your mother’s hands you show
The gifts unique in each abide,
Configured there in shape you know.

May each of us then take the place
That’s made for each of us alone
In house with Mother, full of grace
And always virgin in God’s home.

Christ Our Rock

Reality at last sets in
     As phantoms blow away;
Forgiveness comes for all our sin
     By Him who is the Way.

O, how we’ve tried to kid ourselves
     That we can our truth make;
And pride in us begins to swell,
     But all we make is fake.

Our house of cards comes tumbling down
     When sand foundation moves;
We cry for help lest we all drown
     As falsehood is removed.

Away is sand foundation swept
     And with it make believe;
Beneath it Christ the Rock has kept
     Our life with sin reprieved.

His Rock emerges pure and strong,
     His truth, reality;
The very thing for which we’ve longed:
     He’s our security.

And now on Rock He with us builds
     His Church will never fall;
With nail-scarred hands forever skilled,
     He wants to save us all.

Reality will always win;
     For us He always lives.
Beneath us all He’s always been;
     To us Himself He gives.

Thanksgiving Day

We celebrate with thankfulness
     Our nation’s special day,
As one, we all are greatly blessed
     Across the U.S.A.

We thank the Lord for those before
     Prepared the way for us,
For blessings opened wide the door,
     Left us a sacred trust.

We are a nation on a hill
     With light that shines for all,
For our Lord wants to nations fill
     With goodness when they call.

We come on this Thanksgiving Day
     To bring before our Lord
All nations for whom we now pray
     That all will Christ adore.
