Vine of Life

I’m like a plant in earthen pot
     That’s not in Eden’s soil;
If I stay here I know I’ll not
    Be free from Satan’s coil.

But then a shovel digs me out—
     Is shaped just like a cross–
Leaves roots of sin and all my doubt;
     I know my life’s not lost.

My branch is now joined to a vine
     That lives in Paradise;
I know I am no longer mine
     For I am joined to Christ.

The fruit from me that He will grow
     Is fruit from Vine of Life;
In me I can His wisdom know
     As virtues give me light.

His light through all are joined to Him,
     Brings new creation’s dawn–
A world that’s free from death and sin,
     The world for which we’ve longed.
