Your Watch Fire

I see the watch fire of Your camp
When I step in Your nave–
A beacon that’s Your signal lamp
That You are here to save.

I walk the aisle and genuflect
     And settle in my pew;
I take a moment to reflect
On You who make life new.

In every Catholic Church You’re here
     To save us from ourselves–
From selfishness that brings us near
     To Satan to earth fell.

Your watch fire is Your beacon’s call
To come, take Your light yoke,
And not to let Old Adam’s fall
Mute words on earth You spoke.

For every day You to us come
     To speak Your words again,
To give vocation to become
     Ourselves who’re free from sin.

And in this Church You give us You,
     Your Body and Your Blood–
Make each vocation ever new
As Your life in us floods.
