A Sign for Which We’ve Longed

We see a road sign up ahead,
     A sign for which we’ve longed,
To show where hay will be His bed
     In world where He belongs.

He comes to show He is the Way
     In this world we’re to live;
His Body, Blood, have come to stay:
     To us Himself He gives.

Leads road we’re on to Bethlehem
     Where Baby will be born,
Whose Body, Blood, is free from sin;
     No longer we’re forlorn.

From Mother, human nature comes
     To Baby in hay rests,
‘Cause He has one of us become
     And human nature bless.

One day that hay will altar be
     Where Body, Blood, will lie,
And we can always His face see–
     The One who for us dies.

Yet, He is raised beyond His grave,
     Forever born anew,
For Baby laid in hay will save,
     Will make each of us new.
