You come within to break our willful chains
To set us free from prison of ourselves,
For we have made the choice to our world gain
And found we’re bound in poverty of wealth.
For this world’s wealth can come in many forms—
In fame and fortune as we Caesar serve—
And we find we are more and more forlorn,
Turn on ourselves, are trapped in vicious curve.
At our ropes end at last we turn to You
And ask You into hearts from bondage free;
At last we glimpse our world from heaven’s view;
With Spirit’s eyes we You and our world see.
We look at road ahead we are to walk
With You as worldly cares You cast aside,
As in our hearts we now can hear You talk
And throw away those words are Satan’s lies.
Behind us is a sunset, fades to dark,
While up ahead we see the glow of dawn
That on our hearts makes Your eternal mark—
A life of holiness for which we’ve longed.
