I see the stripes upon Your back
And know You took the whip for me;
For my sin has Your heart so racked
In stripes you let me Your heart see.
I know without You I am lost
Yet on Yourself You take my sin;
In stripes I see You pay the cost
And know that’s where I should have been.
Then my eyes see You lifted high
With nails are driven in Your hands
On Cross is raised against the sky
Where You to fight the Devil stand.
You breathe Your last, are taken down
And placed into a rock-sealed tomb
With my sin wrapped in grave clothes round
As tomb becomes like Mary’s womb.
At dawn on first day of the week
The rock is from within unsealed
And You come forth to each one seek;
Our new creation to reveal.
For You have left our sin behind
With new life from new womb step forth,
And those who seek new life will find
You are the Pearl of priceless worth.
