Cosmic Words

Young Mary spoke a cosmic word,
Said once but for all time,
As welcomed she our world’s true Lord
     Into its stormy clime.

The word she uttered let Him speak
His Word to still our storm.
What we thought strong was to Him weak;
His strength saves us from harm.

Now Mary sits at His right side
     With Mother’s arms and lap.
Through her our present storms subside
As His calm all us wraps.

It’s in that calm we leave our nets,
    Leave all to follow Him.
Like Mary, we our Lord have met–
     Allure of this world dim.

Then some day we will hear, “Well done!”
     As we are welcomed home.
Through us in storm has shone her Son,
And we hear Him say, “Come.”
